The Qualification
The Certified Director or Manager qualification is an experience-based assessment. It requires you to evidence how you work within the context of your board, how you use your knowledge and skills to the benefit of the organization and how you discharge your duties as a director or manager.
The qualification comprises five stages which assess your practical experience as a director or manager:
- Application
- Portfolio of experience
- Formal interview conducted by two Certified Fellow Members interviewers.
The assessment is based on five key areas which are central to organizational direction and governance.
- Vision, Purpose, Values and Ethics
- Strategic Thinking and Stakeholder Management
- Delegation to Management
- Discharging your Duties as a Director and as a Competent Member of a Collective and Responsible Body
- Exercising Effective and Accountable Leadership
Before you can apply for the CIHTM qualification you must meet both the Pre-requisite requirements and the Eligibility criteria. These must be met before proceeding to the application stage.

Developing Board Performance
This three-day module of the Diploma in Company Direction provides a unique opportunity to put your skills to the test as you act as a board member or a line manager to tackle a real-life board-room scenario, mirroring in many ways the operation of a board.

Course objectives
Participation on this course will enable you to:
- Understand your board’s role, its dynamic, power, influence and conflicts
- Gain knowledge of important topics: risk and crisis management, decision-making, mergers and acquisitions, and board performance
- Understand relevant techniques and tools to improve personal skills and that of the board
- Evaluate and improve the performance of your board, its committees and individual directors
